Fifth ArchivoyMemoria Conference

“Extraordinary and unique: 

formation, conservation and management of personal archives”

For the fifth time, the Archivo Histórico Ferroviario (AHF, Railway History Archive) of the Fundación de los Ferrocarriles Españoles (FFE, Spanish Railway Foundation) and the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC, Spanish National Research Council) are organising the "ArchivoyMemoria" Conference, which will take place on 17th and 18th of February 2011, will focus on the analysis of the conceptual and methodological problems concerning the documental heritage generated by individuals or groups during the course of their personal or professional activity (scientists, artists, politicians, academics, etc.), and on the social capacity of their recovery and management by institutions whose functions include the preservation of memory. The chosen title emphasises two typical features of these types of document collections: their extraordinary nature and their personality, frequently diverse in terms of their aims, forms and media. In accordance with the purpose established at the previous conferences, the main objective is to “build bridges” between historians, anthropologists, archivists, media experts, librarians, literature specialists, museologists, etc., and thereby forge links between research projects and documentation and archive professionals.
