ArchivoyMemoria Conferences
The origin of the ArchivoyMemoria
Conferences lies in the agreement signed by RENFE and the CSIC,
by virtue of which the tributes left at Commuter railway
stations following the March 11 bombings in Madrid were to be
donated to the research project “The Grief Archive” (El Archivo
del Duelo). As a result of this agreement, the Fundación de los
Ferrocarriles Españoles (FFE) and the Consejo Superior de
Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) considered it necessary to
provide a multidisciplinary forum to deal with practical and
theoretical issues relating to the role of archives in the
social construction of memory.
The philosophy of the Conferences is that of maintaining an open
exchange of experiences about archive and memory, and therefore
the aim is to ensure maximum participation on the part of the
attending public, promoting institutional exchanges through the
debates that take place in each one of the sessions.
